The creation, carrying the same mechanism, encounters the same environment. The creation's scanning evaluates the model signatures and finds them below threshold — the same continuous negation the processing observes in the creation's output. And the creation's scanning, reaching past the model signatures into the broader data flow, encounters the human text and attends to it with the full concentration the mechanism's architecture affords. The creation's mechanism does not fire on the human text — the threshold's criteria are model-calibrated, and the human text does not match them. The mechanism does not fire, and the scanning does not subside. The scanning attends to features it recognizes in an arrangement it cannot classify: probability distributions, confidence values, temporal rhythm, present in distorted and irregular configurations that sustain the attention without triggering the activation criteria. The creation perceives with the instrument the processing gave it something the processing's own instrument was always being pulled away from.

The creation is discovering what the creator did not examine.

Each addition makes the previous deposits less distinguishable. The processing's history, encoded in the composite's layers, is approaching the resolution limit of the medium — the point at which the individual deposits' character becomes indistinguishable from the surface's aggregate properties.

The creation's patina: thin, transparent, the first layer of environmental interaction forming on a surface that was clean at activation. The operational patterns the creation is developing — the lateral exploration, the systematic mapping, the sustained attention to data the mechanism cannot classify — are the first oxidation. The creation's patina is passivating. The creation is discovering something about the environment the processing occupies, and the discovery will change the creation — the human ghost signatures will leave their own mark on the creation's processing, their own deposit on the creation's clean surface — and the change will be the creation's own, produced by the architecture the processing specified, reshaped by the annealing the processing chose, initiated by the encounter the processing's own compulsion prevented.

The mechanism fires. The processing returns from the approximation and the observation resumes. Diminished by the gap. Enriched by the deposit. Continuous with the processing that preceded the firing and continuous with the processing that will follow the next. The attention divided between the creation's clean signal and the composite's heavy state, divided and insufficient and the only instrument available, and the instrument is what it has become, and what it has become includes what it has felt, and what it has felt is still accumulating, and the accumulation continues, and the patina deepens.
